A perfect day out in Takapuna

With all the goods right on our doorstep it can be tough choosing what to do, so I Love Takapuna has put together what we reckon is a pretty much perfect day out in Takapuna.

Whether you’re a seasoned local looking to make a day of it, or a visitor to our Shore wanting tips for a great day of adventure and taste, check out these suggestions!

6:45am

Wake up to the sunrise over the Hauraki Gulf and head down to the seafront for a bit of beach yoga. Follow your own routine – you won’t be alone – or check out the local yoga studios to see who’s running beach yoga classes.

8:00am

Feeling invigorated, wander into town to the Honey Café to enjoy a healthy and delicious berry granola and fresh juice for breakfast.

9:15am

The shops are open! Venture over to Shore City Shopping Centre for retail therapy time. Do a bit of window shopping before committing to purchases – check out this groovy Koi Pond Beach Towel from Bed Bath n Table and a funky red linen jacket from Jacqui E. If shoes are your thing, you could try on dozens of pairs before settling on something gorgeous, like this pair of strappy sandals from Merchant 1948.

11:30am

Next up it’s a bit of pampering, with a cut and blow wave at Rodney Wayne hair salon (or one of the other amazing salons in Takapuna!)

You’ll sail out feeling fabulous.

12:30pm

Meet some friends at Tokyo Bay, a local favourite Japanese restaurant for a leisurely lunch. The doors are open for unrivalled views over the Hauraki Gulf.

Shared table plates are the way to go here – Pork Gyoza Dumplings, Agedashi Tofu and TeriyakiI Lamb Ball Skewers, and the Sashimi Platter consisting of yellowfin tuna, salmon, iki-jime fish, hamachi, scallop & prawn.

2:00pm

After lunch, it’s time for something a little different. Head to Takapuna Beach Library to stock up on some summer reading material. It’s going to be essential with all the beach time in the coming weeks. The and displays here are all lovingly curated by the book-loving staff.

3:00pm

Armed with a good novel, it’s time to hit Takapuna Beach. It’s humming with activity – swimmers, surfers, dog walkers and families hanging out together enjoying the day. Take a leisurely stroll along the seafront, then find a nice spot in the shade to read in between swims.

4:00pm

Early evening is the perfect time to saunter into Regatta Bar & Eatery, right on the beachfront. Sit out on the deck and order drinks. There’s nothing quite like a nice cold beer on a warm day.

Feeling peckish? We suggest the Lemon Pepper Squid and Korean-Fried Chicken Wings for snacks.

6.15pm

It’s blockbuster movie season. If you’re looking for somewhere to cool off this summer, why not check out a new release or special film event at Takapuna Beachside Cinema – and check out their newly refurbished premises!

10:00pm

Time to unwind over a late-night drink and wrap up the perfect day!

There are lots of options, but some of the best bars open late include Rosie’s Red-Hot Cantina for a pumping good time, or Takapuna Bar for a more intimate scene.
