Malcolm Calder is attempting – with limited success – his retirement from a lifetime in the performing arts industry.
He is best known to North Shore residents as the producer of the annual presentation of Bruce Mason’s play The End of the Golden Weather held on Takapuna Beach each Christmas Day, and along with Sir Roger Hall, founded NZ Theatre Month.
But Malcolm has been a senior figure in the performing arts for many years, managing, and directing some of Australia and New Zealand’s major theatres and arts organisations. He’s worked with venues across four Australian states and in New Zealand, including Red Leap Theatre Trust, Queensland Symphony Orchestra and NZ Theatre Month trust.
In addition to producing duties, he is still a regular reviewer of theatre productions all around Aotearoa.
