The Crucible - show at The PumpHouse Theatre

The PumpHouse: The Crucible

August 11th, 2021 - August 15th, 2021

“I am not sure what “The Crucible” is telling people now, but I know that its paranoid centre is still pumping out the same darkly attractive warning that it did in the fifties.” – Arthur Miller, 1996 This faithful, contemporary production brings Arthur Miller’s classic play to life on The PumpHouse Theatre stage for a strictly limited season. Using the Salem, Massachusetts Witch Trials of 1692 as the historical basis for an allegorical warning against consequences of false accusations and baseless rumour, Miller responded to the era of McCarthyism and the US Government persecution of those accused of having communist sympathies. But in the age of internet rumours, social media and cancel culture the fundamental elements of hysteria, accusation and blind faith are still hugely relevant in our society today. The Crucible is presented by Foolish Wit Theatre by arrangement with Music Theatre International Australasia Pty Ltd on behalf of Dramatists Play Service Inc.

Bruce Mason Centre: Kevin Bloody Wilson F.U.P.C NZ Tour

September 29th, 2021

The outrageously funny KEVIN BLOODY WILSON returns to NZ in September, bringing Kiwis another side-splitting dose of his original fair-dinkum Aussie humour, supported by Jenny Talia from Australia. Since releasing his first hugely popular album Your Average Australian Yobbo in 1984 and hit songs like 'Hey Santa Claus', Kevin Bloody Wilson has become a comedy institution around the globe. Considered the world’s funniest Australian, as dry and as rough as his Outback heritage, Kevin stands out as a beacon for PC pushback in a world almost drowning in a tsunami of Political Correctness. His latest stage show, F.U.P.C, is no exception, spotlighting Political Correctness for what it is and how Kev sees it – a big giggle crafted in song – guaranteed to have you belly-laughing at subject matter you’re not supposed to be laughing at. Social Justice Warriors and PC Advocates are invited to stay at home, but the rest of you are welcome to enjoy a knee-slapping, hilarious night of Kev’s common sense take on Political Correctness. R18 restriction applies.
