We're so excited to have the Takapuna Filipino Festival coming to Waiwharariki Anzac Square soon! Celebrate the vibrant and colourful culture of the Philippines with us at Waiwharariki Anzac Square on the 4th of May from 11am to 4pm with Takapuna Filipino Fiesta. This event is free and open to everyone and will have a Flores de Mayo (Flowers of May) theme -- we will have an outdoor market with food and non-food merchants as well as music and cultural performances. Bruce Mason Centre: Morning Melodies - North Shore Brass

The largest musical group on the North Shore with well over 100 musicians is back to showcase their world-class soloists plus new and old repertoire for all to enjoy. North Shore Brass is one of New Zealand’s most active community music organisations. Consisting of four bands, North Shore Brass is the highest ranked band, the current vice-champion band of New Zealand and reigning champion band of Auckland – by a record winning margin of 30 points! The organisation has been performing at many historical occasions since 1923, supporting and representing the local North Shore and Auckland community in civic events, parades, community occasions, and more. This performance is part of the Auckland Live Morning Melodies 2024 season. In its 23rd year, this much-loved monthly concert series features a fantastic line-up of brass bands, jazz ensembles, and more. The PumpHouse: My Brilliant Divorce

This play centres around Angela, whose husband has run off with a younger woman, and whose teenage daughter moves out to live with a drummer in a band. This leaves Angela to cope with her dog, her disapproving Irish mother, and all the aftermath of middle-aged loneliness. Many diverse characters feature off-stage, supplying not always helpful advice, including Angela’s ex-husband, numerous helplines, lawyers and doctors, and even shop assistants. Angela will be brilliantly played by the marvellous, legendary Jackie Clarke. Don’t miss this gem of a play.

Camerata Chamber Choir: Songs from Germany

Schöne Lieder - Songs from Germany ‘Beautiful songs’ by German composers have been chosen for Camerata Chamber Choir’s first concert of 2024 on Saturday 18 May. Under the direction of conductor Matthew Howes, we perform Rheinberger's sublime Mass in E-flat Major, Mendelssohn's Verleih uns Frieden, Brahms’ Geistliches Lied, Bach's O Jesu Christ, Mein’s Lebens Licht, and Bruckner's Os Justi. A highlight will be Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes Op. 52 and Op. 65, a collection of love songs. Liebeslieder Op. 52 was first performed in 1870, and Neue Liebeslieder Op. 65 (‘New Love Songs’) was written several years later. Arranged for choir and piano duet, Camerata is thrilled to be accompanied by Megan Quatermass and Sheryl Clarke playing together on one grand piano. Join us for an evening of beautiful choral music! The PumpHouse: Creative Talks - Elizabeth Barton

Elizabeth Barton Artist and Poet Elizabeth Barton is an artist and poet from New Zealand. She moved to the UK in 1985 where she pursued a career in art and illustration, exhibiting with other fine artists in London's West End and working freelance for publishers like Hodder & Stoughton and Penguin. On her return to New Zealand in 2013, she settled in Te Aroha and began her foray into poetry, which has become a mythic journey she never imagined possible. She has two poetry collections published, including Mirrored Time which won the White Label Cinq in 2020 with Hedgehog Poetry Press, and is about to see a third collection in print, Auroral, by a new publisher in the US with the intriguing name Naked Cat Literature. Elizabeth has established her own studio in Te Aroha, where she enjoys a unique creative hub showcasing her art and poetry books.
